Ever said something, and people say "that's old news"?
Well, they were lying, because THIS is old news.
November 2000
We have a summer show. Same Jimmy Nicol Day, same Jimmy Nicol Time, same Jimmy Nicol
Channel, no more Jas. The show will be Jacko and friends, as Jas is going to do the
overseas thing for a year and a half. Jacko and selected mates will run the gauntlet for
the next 13 weeks.
Parts 2 and 3 of our interview with Jeff Raglus from Dubbledub will be aired this week,
we discuss things such as Jojo Zep, the Beatles and Thomas the Tank Engine. Riveting
radio. Simply riveting.
Jacko doesn't know this, but I'm putting up the speech Jim and I wrote for his 21st.
Relive the memories here. Good thing I'm leaving the country in a few days, 'cos he's
gonna be pissed.
New bits on the website: Plugfest for our CD "Skits & Pieces", Updated the
photos bit with some happy snaps of other UniSA student radio personalities, Jacko's 21st
speech, links to Jason's Postcards Page, and Robbo and Jas' World Tour Page
October 2000
We did three shows this week! We one on Wednesday as a fill in for Flinders Uni Student
Radio, and 2 on Friday, filling in for Marmalade.
September 2000
We welcome Helena as part of the Jimmy Nicol Show family. She'll be doing reviews and
other bits and pieces, as well as whatever jobs we can convince her to do, like getting us
coffees and doing the Maccas run. Wanna find out more about her? Look in our mates
section.
No, it wasn't you radio. But it wasn't it our fault either. Our Royal Show show came to
an abrupt end when the entire station was plunged into darkness. Power didn't come back on
until after our show finished, so we went and got a yiros instead. Therefore, we missed
about 1/2 the show. I guess we'll play the rest in the coming week. The Advertiser called
it "their best show ever."* (* = Statement will not stand up in a court of law.)
We went to the Royal Adelaide Show, and had a chat to some of the locals. We'll play
bits of it on our upcoming show.
August 2000
Jas did an interview with Magic Dirt. It will be aired on our show on the 1st of
September.
We won the award!!! Last night, (Sat, 19th of August) we went to the awards ceremony and
won the South Australian Community Broadcasters Association Bilby Award for Best Program
Promo. That means that our Pizza Palace promo was the best promo in community broadcasting
in the state this year. Apparently we get 6 bottles of wine, as well. Our parents are very
proud. You can hear our entry by clicking on the direct link on our downloads page.
Our OB at Magill was great fun, and we reckon it was a success as well. We talked to a
lot of people who didn't want us to, and found a log the size of a small child which we
tried to interview. We've already played the first half, but the second hour will be
played this Friday (August 25th) at the usual time. Cheers to all our UniSASR friends that
helped out - Wendy from Marmalade, Vic & Liz from the Oz Files, Heidi from the Queer
Hour (who took lots of lovely photos that will be up here soon) Drew and Tyson from the
Blue Men of Kentucky and Em & Nick from Popscene. And of course, Murchie, who paneled
and organised everything. A final cheers to all who participated, USASA people, innocents
in the bar, Sarah the barkeep, etc. And lastly, we'd like to thank the academy, TV Week,
all who voted for us......
July 2000
We'll be at the Royal Show in some capacity. We'll be out and about interviewing
ordinary Aussie Battlers and stealing Popstars' showbags from little girls, and we may
even be involved in another outside broadcast from the show itself, where we can tell you
how sick all the toffee apples and hanging upside down has made us. We may also chat to
some livestock.
OUR PROMO MADE IT! Yes indeedie, out of all the promos from the station, we are 5UV's
entry for Program Promo. The awards are judged on Saturday 22nd of August. Download the
actual entry from our downloads page.
We will be involved with the Magill Campus Open Day, Monday August 14th. We will be
doing an outside broadcast from midday to 1 in the afternoon at the Magill Bar. Come
along, as there will not only be us, but also a few of the other shows and the whole
freakin' campus will be public domain so bring a footy and socialise, dammit!
We have been asked to enter our Pizza Palace Promo into the SACBA Bilby awards in the
Program Promo category. 5UV can only enter one promo for the entire station, and there are
some pretty schmick promos going 'round the station, let alone UniSA's student radio, so
we may not even get that far, but we've been short listed and hey, we liked it.
Murchie did an interview with Pauline Hanson, and got her to do some ID's for us!! They
will be available in the downloads section as soon as we can be motivated.
CONFIRMED: We now officially have a show a week next semester until there are enough
complaints about 40 second fart sequences that (at least) one of our shows is replaced.
Still at that same Jimmy Nicol day, same Jimmy Nicol time, and same Jimmy Nicol station,
starting on the 7th of July.
June 2000
WE HAVE A SHOW NEXT SEMESTER!!!! Yes indeedie radio fans, it would seem as though we are
doing an adequate enough job to keep our heads.
WE MIGHT HAVE TWO SHOWS NEXT SEMESTER!!!! Yes indeedie radio fans, it would seem as
though we have impressed the management enough to be offered a weekly spot instead of a
fortnightly spot. Not confirmed at this stage, but twice as many shows means we'll have to
expand into other areas of entertainment, such as interviews with people nobody knows.
May 2000
Jacko and Jas will be doing an outside broadcast sometime next semester. It will be held
in the Gate One bar at City East, probably in the arvo. Come along and bring your friends,
have some beers and have a good time. Keep checking back to see the plans progressing.
Our Boganism Report skit went up to Whyalla student radio, courtesy of our mate Murchie.
Apparently they didn't get the VB jokes. Onya Whyalla, onya.
At the moment, we nearly have enough sketches for half a CD
